2017 in Review- Park Ministry

One fun focus of our ministry this year was outreach in the park across the street from the mission home. We have been working in this park for over 6 years now, and it has been so fun to watch the park become an important gathering place in the community. Here are some the highlights:

Park Clean Up-

We had a handful of teams work together to keep the park looking nice. We want to give a special shoutout to the Auburn University team, who came to the DR not once but twice in 2017! They worked in the park on both trips: cleaning, painting, and planting. Park clean-up seems like a simple service project, but it actually allows us to work with the local community and foster relationships as we all serve together. A beautiful park and new friendships- It’s a win-win situation!

Park Outreach-

Throughout the summer, our staff-in training Jeanie Hurst and Raven Hundley led different outreaches in the park. From VBS’s to crafts to skits, the children in this neighborhood saw it all. They loved learning different Bible stories through these fun activities. We also had team members in the park most evenings playing sports, drawing with chalk, and spending quality time in the community.

As always, we want to hear your stories. Share a picture or post about the park ministry with the hashtag #DRMissions2017. We can’t wait to hear about your experiences!
